Lice Clinics of America at Sunset Pediatrics Children’s Day 2017
/in Head Lice/by lcaportlandLice Clinics of Portland had the pleasure of attending Sunset Pediatrics Children’s Day on June 21st, located in the East Pavilion of St. Vincent’s hospital.
This event was held to promote “children’s health, wellness, quality care, and FUN,” according to Sunset Pediatrics. Participants were able to learn about kid-friendly organizations located in the greater Portland area as well as play games and win prizes.
Our Lice Clinics of America Portland table displayed our signature AirAlle device, as well as information on our various treatment options. Lice Clinics of Portland also gave visitors the chance to enter a drawing for a “Lice Survival Kit,” intended for parents who have struggled with past lice and lice egg outbreaks. Along with our advice, we awarded individuals who approached our table with $25 off an AirAlle treatment at our lice removal clinic.
Other businesses represented at Children’s Day 2017 included Abbott Nutrition, Baby Boot Camp, Country Financial, Dr. Brandon’s Kona Kids Dentistry, EI/ECSE Early Intervention, Lice Knowing You, LifeChange for Women and Their Children, Mad Science, Mead Johnson Nutrition, Metro West Ambulance, My Little Waiting Room, Nicole’s Face Painting, Northwest Mother’s Milk Bank, Play.Fit.Fun, Providence Children’s Services, Providence Mother & Baby Clinic, Providence Therapy Dogs, Shriner’s Hospital for Children- Portland, Sunset Pediatrics, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Washington County Cooperative Library Services, Washington County Safe Kids, Washington County Sheriff’s Dept, and Washington County WIC. We enjoyed speaking to many of these organizations and learning more about their commitment to bettering the community.
It was extremely rewarding to discover that parents, children, and doctors were excited to learn about our lice removal technology. Many people were thrilled to share with us that they had heard about our revolutionary lice treatment options from other businesses at the event.
Overall, Children’s Day 2017 was an incredible success for us at Lice Clinics of America-Portland. We want to thank Sunset Pediatrics for hosting such a successful event.
2017 National Spelling Bee Winner Correctly Spells “Phthirophagous”
/in Head Lice/by lcaportland“Phthirophagous” what’s that?! Everyone in Portland, Oregon is talking about the 2017 National Spelling Bee! Twelve-year-old Ananya Vinay from Fresno, California, won first place at the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee. She completed 36 ruthless rounds, beat her final competitor, Rohan Rajeev, correctly spelling “marocain,” as he incorrectly spelled his final word, “marram.” Vinay was fairly composed after winning a $40,000 cash prize, especially given that for the last four years the Scripps Spelling Bee has resulted in a tie between two competitors for first place. Vinay was joined immediately by her proud parents who helped the young contestant realize the immense accomplishment of her victory.
Many of the words given to the 2017 National Spelling Bee contestants are commonly unknown by many adults. This year’s words such as “bumicky,” “ascian,” “Klydonograph,” and excitingly for us at Lice Clinics of America Portland the word “phthirophagous” was spelled correctly by the champion. As defined by Merriam-Webster, “phthirophagous” is an adjective used to describe “eating lice.” This word is rarely used today, however, with the implementation of our patented, FDA cleared AirAllé lice treatment, we can safely say at Lice Clinic’s of Portland that the device is certainly a “phthirophagous” machine.
The AirAllé device works simply by blowing controlled heated air on the scalp, the AirAllé device removes not only live lice but also 99.2% of their eggs, unlike any other lice product on the market..
If you or your children are suffering from a lice infestation, look no further. Our “phthirophagous” AirAllé for lice removal will have you and your children leaving our clinic lice-free and nit-free in less than 90 minutes.
Head Lice Removal is No Match for Science & Medicine
/in Head Lice/by lcaadminIt has become well known in the medical community that the most popular over-the-counter (OTC) head-lice removal treatment products are mostly ineffective. This is a response to head lice in the United States and other countries developing a genetic resistance to the chemicals—pesticides—the lice products use.
Head Lice Resistant to Treatments Containing Pyrethroids
In the latest published research, released in the Journal of Medical Entomology in 2016, 98 percent of head lice in at least 42 states were found to have gene mutations that enable them to resist pyrethroids, the class of pesticides used by OTC lice products.
“There is nothing unique about lice becoming resistant to the pyrethroids,” John Clark, a professor of environmental toxicology and chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, told the website Live Science. “We have over 300 different insects that have become resistant to the pyrethroids, and many of those insects became resistant by acquiring these mutations exactly as the head louse has done.”
Clark and team studied samples of head lice from around the United States after hearing reports that people were having trouble ridding children of lice and lice eggs using OTC products.
Sciences vs. Head Lice
While Clark and other researchers are studying pyrethroid-resistant head lice; others are looking for new ways to fight the pests. A team of biologists at the University of Utah studying bird lice found it difficult to keep the insects alive in the arid desert climate. When one of the researchers’ children came home with head lice, the professor found that the OTC lice treatments didn’t work. The team believed that if they could recreate the arid conditions that killed lice in the lab, they could create a new kind of lice treatment product.
After a decade of research, the AirAllé medical device was born. The AirAllé device works by applying carefully controlled warm air using a specially designed applicator to dehydrate lice and eggs. It has been clinically proven to kill live lice and 99.2 percent of eggs in a single treatment of about 90 minutes. There are no chemicals used, so it is equally effective against pyrethroid-resistant lice as it is against non-resistant lice.
FDA Cleared Medical Device
Clinical trial results were published in the medical journal Pediatrics in 2006, and updated and confirmed in the Journal of Medical Entomology in 2011, and the device was cleared by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for head-lice.
The AirAllé device delivers warm air at just the right temperature to just the right location for just the right amount of time to kill lice and eggs. A microprocessor controls the air temperature and flow, and a certified technician moves the applicator to deliver the air to the hair and scalp.
AirAllé treatment is now available through Lice Clinics of America professional treatment centers where treatments are guaranteed to be effective. The response to the availability of safe, fast, chemical-free, and guaranteed lice removal has been swift and dramatic.
How Did Lice Clinics of Portland Owner Get His Start?
/in Head Lice/by lcaadminHow did I get in the Lice business?
I have been in the commercial real estate industry with CBRE, HSM Pacific and now Commercial Realty Advisors for 32 years. My current clients include Ashley Furniture, Banfield Pet Hospital, Buffalo Wild Wings, Denny’s, Ethan Allen, Fat Heads, Lamps Plus, Lolli and Pops, Men’s Wearhouse, Natural Grocers, Panda Express, Potbelly Sandwich Works, Qdoba, Starbucks, Taco Bell and 5.11 Tactical. Other than 6 months as a Great Clips franchisee, commercial real estate has been my primary business activity.
Last summer, Pat, my real estate client of over 20 years who has owned hair salons and related businesses all over the United States and Canada, mentioned to me he was opening a lice removal clinic outside of Dallas, Texas. My reaction was “Are you kidding? That is disgusting. Why would you ever do that?” Pat happens to be one of the smartest people I know, so I listened intently to his response. He told me lice have been around for thousands of years. As a matter of fact, archeologists have even found lice on mummies from ancient Egypt. So, killing lice as a service business is not going away any time soon. He noted that the lice of today have become resistant to many of the shampoos and prescription drugs that use pesticides and neurotoxins. And further, Lice Clinic of America has developed proprietary heated air technology designed to dehydrate and kill the lice and nits so there is no need to use any unhealthy chemicals. The patented AirAllé device is FDA cleared and is currently the best method available for the lice eradication industry. The opportunity to help families with a serious, but not life-threatening problem, appealed to me. Pat pointed out that Oregon was the best territory in the country that was still available. I love that lice treatment is a service that you cannot buy on Amazon. With over 200 clinics around the world, the company has a solid record of success and is growing by leaps and bounds. I knew I could make a difference in the industry.
My next step was to find a partner who had experience running a similar business. I started looking for a partner and talked to several people. One morning on the way to spin class at the Multnomah Athletic Club, I ran into my friend Mark. I immediately thought he is the perfect partner. I told him about this business and after the usual look of disbelief, he said he wanted to hear more. After several weeks of due diligence, we decided to buy a territory from Eugene to the south, Vancouver, Washington to the north, west to the Oregon Coast and east to Bend. Our plan is to open six to eight lice specialty clinics in the region over the next several years.
We have now been open for two weeks. We are very proud of the clinic. It is light, bright and has a very clean modern design. We located in the Sylvan area just west of the Oregon Zoo because it is easily accessible to the entire Portland Metropolitan area.
To date, it has been very rewarding to see families come in the clinic frustrated with their attempts to self-treat their lice infestation or simply surprised that their family has been inundated with the bugs and not sure what to do next. After each treatment, our families leave happy and relieved to be lice free. I thoroughly enjoy the feeling of watching them leave lice free. We hope they won’t be back, but instead will tell their friends and colleagues about our service.
My friends, well every time I speak to them about my latest venture, they their scalp starts itching immediately.
I’m happy to give you a tour of our clinics and introduce you to the amazing AriAllé technology. Call me any time at 503-504-2957.
A Lice Message From Our Clinic Owner
/in Head Lice/by lcaadmin“You’re kidding me – that’s disgusting!” That was the reaction I received from Marcia, my wife of 33 years, when I announced that I was looking to open our Lice Clinics of America Portland clinic with my parter George. Of course, as a pre-school teacher she had experienced lice first hand with some of her students, but this was her husband dealing with lice every day.
So what was I thinking when I decided to go into the lice eradication business? I’ve worked on Wall Street, been involved in real estate development, owned a medical testing business and currently run a software company. But this is totally different.
I’m actually excited about the opportunity to work with families and especially the kids. I’ve coached sports for many years; working with children (especially my own two) from ages 5 through 18. I also served on a school board for 20 years. I believe working with children is the greatest gift. The lice business allows me to hang around younger families and help them fix a problem that is totally solvable in just a 60 to 90 minute time frame – that’s about the time of a soccer game (definitely not a baseball game, especially in the rain.)
Also, I’m totally jazzed about our technology. Being able to stand behind a solution that is 99% effective is a great feeling. When I first heard about the AirAllé device and saw it in action, I realized how much easier and cleaner it was than anything else on the market and I wanted in.
We’ve built our clinic to be bright, clean and cheerful. We have books, toys, movies and music to entertain you during treatment, and when you leave, you WILL be nit and lice free.
As my friends joke, I’m itching to get to work in this lousey business. We look forward to serving you and your families. Bug us any time and please, let your friends know that Lice Clinics of America has the BEST solution for your lice removal.
